Chronicles of a Sewist is my studio journal documenting the garments I make from concept to completion, through photographs, notes, and reflections.

The Sewing Process

There’s something truly magical about sewing and design - the way a simple piece of fabric can be transformed into something full of character and purpose. For me, that magic lives at the intersection of artistry and craftsmanship: from sketching concepts and selecting materials to engineering garments that move, endure, and tell a story onstage.

Why were the garments made, and what story do they tell? Design choices and challenges during the process of making it, and how it shaped the final garment. The outcome of those decisions and creative minds working together.

Notes from the Workroom

My work spans theatre costuming, fashion design, and custom garment construction, with each piece built from concept through final stitch. From patternmaking and fabric selection to fittings and performance-ready finishes, I approach every project with both artistry and function in mind.

Here on the blog, I share a closer look at my sewing process and the finished pieces behind it. I write about making costumes and garments designed to move, endure, and tell a story. Take a look around and follow along as each design comes to life.

My Story

I returned to school to study fashion design, eager to refine my skills and challenge myself creatively. Exploring new techniques, trying all kinds of fabrics, and learning patternmaking completely changed the way I approach design.

Since then, sewing has taken me through a varied and rewarding career as a patternmaker, cutter/draper, and costume designer. Every challenge, adjustment, and finished piece reinforces why I do this work: to create thoughtfully made garments that support storytelling and performance.
